Minister of State, Aviation Hadi Sirika has again applauded the Nassarawa State airport project. The Minister said that having an airport in Lafia the Nassarawa capital would be beneficial to the state and also to the Federal Capital, Abuja. This is due to the proximity of Nassarawa to the FCT.
Sirika said this when Nassarawa State Governor Tanko Al-Makura paid him a courtesy call at his office in Abuja last Wednesday ,January 4. Sirika noted in particular that Lafia would have been a natural choice for the planned diversion of international flights from the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, in March to allow for a repair of the runway there.
He said that Nassarawa is a good location for aviation because of its flat lands, and good weather, which is mostly sunny year round. He said that the planned airport which is a commercial one for both cargo and commercial flights would assist the farmers in the state to speedily move their agricultural produce to markets both local and international.
Al-Makura thanked Sirika for his unflinching support for his state’s airport project. He then appraised his host of the status of the project. According to him, the project site which is about 4,000 hectares of land has been acquired and cleared by the state government.
He said the state government would soon begin the construction of a 65- kilometre expressway that would link the airport straight to Abuja, such that air travellers through the Nassarawa airport can reach the FCT within on hour after disembarking from an aircraft in Lafia.
The N20 billion Nassarawa State airport is a joint venture between the state government and the Tongyi Group, China.
