The Managing director of the Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, Mr Gur Mohammed has been relieved of his position. Aaron Artimas, spokesman of the Federal Minister of Power, Mamman Sale who announced the sack, Wednesday, May 20,2020 said that Mr Mohammed sack took immediate effect and he would be replaced by Engineer Sule Ahmed Abdulaziz, a general manager of TCN, howbeit in an acting capacity. Aaron Artimas had made the announcement in a tweet on the Minister of Power’s official tweeter handle Wednesday.
Artimas said that,” As part of continuing measures to reposition and improve the performance of the power sector in the country, the Minister of Power, Engr Sale Mamman, hereby announces major changes at the Transmission Company of Nigeria.”
“Accordingly, the Managing Director of the TCN, Usman Gur Mohammed, has been removed from office with immediate effect. He is being replaced with Engr Sule Ahmed Abdulaziz as Managing Director in acting capacity.
“The Minister has also confirmed the appointment of four directors who have been on acting position in the company for some time.”
“They are; Eng. Victor G. Adewumi. Executive Director, Transmission Services Provider; Engr. M. J. Lawal, Executive Director, Independent Systems Operator; Ahmed lsa-Dutse, Executive Director, Finance & Accounts and Justin l. Dodo, Executive Director, Human Resources & Corporate Services.
Mr Mohammed in a reaction same day, said he was yet to receive any letter official conveying his sack to him. Observers say the relationship between the Minister of Power and Mohammed had been sour since the appointment of Sale last year. Mohammed had spent three years as managing director of TCN, the government agency responsible for the transmission of power generated by power plants round the country to the power distribution companies for onward supply to consumers.
Mohammed, a chartered accountant, worked with the African Development Bank, AFDB before his appointment, first as interim MD at TCN in February,2017. He took over the leadership of TCN after the expiry of the two-year management contract signed with Manitoba Inc , Canada in 2016 to run TCN. Gur Mohammed is likely to return to AFDB following his removal.
