The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria,FAAN, has moved its corporate headquarters to Abuja. The aviation agency said, June 24, that this was “ in compliance with the directive of the Federal Ministry of Aviation that all agencies in the sector relocate their corporate headquarters to Abuja.”
This movement, according to FAAN General Manager, Corporate Affairs, Henrietta Yakubu, was aimed at ensuring operational efficiency, while also improving the quality of service delivery to its esteemed customers.
Already, FAAN Managing Director, Rabiu Yadudu, directors and other key staff of the authority have since re-located to the new FAAN headquarters in Abuja, Yakubu said.
It has taken at least two decades for the aviation agency which owns and manages the country’s federal airports on behalf of the federal government to move away from Lagos to the fairly new federal capital,Abuja.FAAN had long argued that Lagos, the commercial centre was the hub for aviation industry therefore,it was expedient for it to remain in Lagos, even when other Fg agencies had moved. But what has informed the new thinking by the agency appears to be an ultimatum to it by the Aviation Ministry to comply with a government directive to move to Abuja. From all indications lagos may remain the hub for aviation activities in the country, but seeking regulatory approvals and discussions with ranking aviation officials may bring more aviation industry players more often.
FAAN will now be heaquartered at the newly completed Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport complex in Abuja. While its current Lagos office located at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport corridor, would become an annex.
