Malawi’s new President Lazarus Chakwera has appointed Wilson Banda,as the new governor of the Malawi Reserve
Bank, a government statement said on Wednesday, July 8,2020.Dr Banda is a former ranking official of the bank.
He was the Senior advisor to the Executive Director for the Africa Group at the World Bank, where he began working as an advisor in 2010 after leaving the Malawi Reserve Bank,MRB. Banda was General Manager at the Malawi Reserve Bank from 2003 to 2010.He has also served as a director of the Malawi Stock Exchange and Chairman of Malawi Knowledge Network and Malawi Payments Systems.
Chakwera who was sworn in as President in June, also appointed a number of other individuals to his 31-member cabinet. Although key positions such as that of the finance minister have already been announced.
Dr Banda replaces former governor, Dalitso Kabambe who was recently fired by the new president.
